Bellawai Golden Retrievers ~ Totally passionate about dogs

Hi there, this is me, Maria with some of our beautiful puppies now gone to their forever homes. I love their expression of keenness to look at me with love. I put so much time into each furbaby it is wonderful to see their trust in me. So a bit about me… I ADORE DOGS. I feel super comfortable with them and really love their eagerness to please. It fascinates me their interactions with each other and that most of it is done without noise. A look, change of body position, averted gaze, bow down to play. That is why dogs do so well to have positive force free interaction with us. They very rarely growl or reprimand each other and certainly using their voice is a last resort in conflict. Dogs want to learn from us and please us. They want to know what we want. When we train them with clear direction and patience they will excel and be calm, relaxed family members.

Life Coaching was my professional work. I specialised in working with adults, families and kids navigating Neurodiversities like ADHD, Autism and Trauma from family harm as a contractor.

If you would like to know more you can visit my website www.resetmindset.co.nz which has my online store. I have had a book published. Bounce Back which is a children’s journal of managing feelings. As a long time contractor to a family harm counselling service; it was my role to help women rebuild after sexual and family harm. All of these ‘leaves in my book’ have certainly developed my confidence in dog breeding and dog handling.

I have felt very grateful to work many years in these areas and bring a lot of my gentle training concepts into raising my dogs and your puppies. My training as an HR Training and Development Manager has been key to supporting my roles with humans and animals.

I like to teach about Nature vs Nurture. I believe that when parent dogs are raised in a calm and supportive environment, their puppies will have a reduction of stress hormones. This is why I own my own Studs and Dams. Your puppy can have their father around to contribute to their learning and I have seen every time the mother dog really appreciates the father being there as she progresses with the pregnancy. This is healthy for them.

I am registered with Dogs NZ for obedience.

I took time to learn from a great Dog trainer Rebecca Roper, from Okay K9’s in the Bay of Islands in private lessons for nearly a year. This was after I had learned a few basics with my old dog Polly, at an obedience and agility club in Whangaparaoa Auckland. Rebecca and the Whangaparaoa trainers taught me how to get my dog to want to work with me and for me.

Our dogs enjoy their own gardens at home. They move between four dog spaces so they never need to be tied up and are not kenneled for long periods of time. They are social animals and they move amongst the pack as appropriate for who is on heat to breed from and who isn’t.  There are outdoor baths, jumps and ramps, branches with treats hidden, lots of toys and interesting things to climb up and on. We have made most the equipment out of recycled materials when we can.
